WHAT:  Resting Hands is an open healing circle that observes the ancient practice of laying on hands.  Although sometimes associated with Christian prayer, here the practice of laying on hands is observed outside of a religious context.

Sessions begin with a short period of meditation, after which each participant who wishes receives several minutes of caring, respectful touch from the rest of the group, generally while lying face up on a dais and covered with a ceremonial blanket.  Appropriate music and lighting add to the experience.

WHY:  All human beings ultimately desire and even need to be touched.  Touch is a universal affirmation of being and of being valued.  Touch is both the expression and recognition of our  inherent condition of relatedness.  Touch is also the direct extension of our capacity to feel, and it is only in the domain of feeling that we are healed.

Resting hands on the body in order to aid healing is a basic, ancienct expression of this wisdom: touch is not only a human need, but even a necessary part of most psychophysical healing.  In Resting Hands, we resort to this simple practice.

Be as you are.

Whatever you have done or not done…

Whatever has been done to you or not done to you…

Whatever others believe or don't believe about you…

Whatever you believe or don't believe about yourself…

You are in fact inherently whole and worthy...

With the birthright, instincts, and inalienable ability to be happy.
